Selenium IDE

Selenium logoToday started to study Selenium IDE to do web automation testing. I didn’t know much about selenium. In here I would like share my experience regarding this tool. Also will continue writing my updates with this tool. Let us take a short overview on this tool.

What is Selenium?

When I did a google image search with the keyword ‘selenium’, got almost 10,30,000 results. Here goes the screenshot-

Lots of product named as Selenium. But I actually need the software- Selenium IDE now. It can be collect from Selenium download page. The UI of the software is as below:

Selenium which (known as Selenium Recorder previously) is actually a Firefox extension. It allows to recording, editing and debugging tests. Selenium is probably one of the best portable software testing frameworks for web applications available in the market and yes it is absolutely free!

History of Selenium

According to Wikipedia, Selenium was originally developed by Jason Huggins, who was later joined by other programmers and testers at ThoughtWorks. It is open source software, released under the Apache 2.0 license and can be downloaded and used without charge. The latest side project is Selenium Grid, which provides a hub allowing the running of multiple Selenium tests concurrently on any number of local or remote systems, thus minimizing test execution time. Selenium Test Package

Selenium is a package consisting of the following three tools. Each one has a specific role in aiding the development of test automation for a Web applications.

  1. Selenium IDE – A Firefox extension to record test cases and suites.
  2. Selenium RC – Used to run tests on different browsers and systems.
  3. Selenium Core – It is the engine of both, Selenium IDE and Selenium RC
  4. Selenium Grid – Runs multiple instances of Selenium RC at once.

    I have a problem with the overall premise of your article but I still think its really informative. I really like your other posts. Keep up the great work. If you can add more video and pictures can be much better. Because they help much clear understanding. :) thanks
